I am having a good admin day today; emailing, catching up with references, bookings accomodations, paying bills, and sorting through images to blog this week before I head up to the Northwest on Thursday for 5 days work.
Off for a swim this afternoon, and then I’m looking forward to tomorrow for my ‘Photography Day’ I have scheduled, to practise some of my own photography work, shoot some still life and just experiment 🙂 Then on Wednesday; a scheduled ‘Play Day’ – going into London to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition and to Camden Town on the hunt for a few new outfits for shoots coming up and general wide-eyed mooching <3
These ‘days’ were prompted because, although there’s tons of positives to working freelance, one of the drawbacks, for me at least, and I know others have said the same, is that it can be very easy to lose track of time, often working through weekends, evenings, and never have proper ‘days off’, and so it has a tendency to all mix into a muddy blur of constant emailing, updating profiles, packing, unpacking and neverending ‘to do’ lists crammed in with mundane tasks of going to the bank, food shopping and cleaning!
I do love my modelling and I enjoy putting a lot of my own time into it with all the organising, communications and preparations ‘behind the scenes’ as such, but I think a lot of creatives can get so sucked into it, wanting to continously succeed, fearful of falling behind or missing an enquiry, or just aren’t very good at switching off without official ‘working hours’. It’s important to remind yourself that inbetween the jobs & travelling you should try to strictly schedule a bit of time in the diary for the other stuff in your life… obviously your family and friends, but also your other hobbies, interests and plain old ‘enjoying the world’ time that is so often put on hold. So hopefully I will get better at keeping a healthy balance 🙂 Afterall what is life if you’re only living to work, and not just enjoying simple pleasures, trying and seeing new things. ‘Life’ is the present moment. Don’t continously postpone your life!
As today is an official ‘Admin Day’ I have been enjoying catching up with everything and have quite a few new images to share from over the last few weeks, I’ll start with this little mix – all taken at one of my local studios, in Chesham, just half an hour from me – KV Media. Hope you like them, and have a great week! 🙂
